Employee Ownership University is The ESOP Association's professional development and credentialing ecosystem. The EOU builds upon The ESOP Association's decades of trusted guidance and education leadership to combine on-demand online courses, live online learning, and in-person educational experiences into structured learning pathways that help employee owners, committee members, leaders, facilitators, prospective board members, and budding ESOP professionals build and strengthen their expertise, ultimately helping members earn certificates and advance through structured learning pathways.  

While the EOU expands access to learning year-round and grants 24/7 access to the online curriculum, in-person learning remains a cornerstone of The ESOP Association's mission. Conferences, workshops, and face-to-face networking will continue to play a vital role in every certificate pathway. TEA designed EOU to complement—not replace—the in-person education our members value. Additional certificates and learning pathways are planned in the coming months, creating even more opportunities for professional growth. 

A learning pathway is the recommended sequence of learning experiences designed to help participants develop lasting knowledge—not simply to complete the coursework. While it may be tempting to complete all of the online courses first, participants gain the most value when they follow the recommended sequence of online learning, webinars, practice activities, reflection, and in-person experiences. We recognize that due to work schedules or in-person course access, it may be necessary to complete modules out of sequence. Certain activities build on previous learning, and some portions of the pathway will remain unavailable until participants complete prerequisite requirements.

Yes. The Ownership Committee Member (OCM) Certificate serves as the prerequisite pathway for the OCL Certificate. Learners pursuing OCL will earn the OCM Certificate first and then continue into the advanced leadership pathway. If you know that you want to earn the OCL, please enroll for this certificate and you will earn both certificates with this one purchase. This stackable approach allows participants to earn two credentials while building progressively deeper knowledge and leadership skills. The OCM can typically be completed in approximately four months, while the full OCL pathway can generally be completed within 9–12 months.

EOU certificates demonstrate commitment to professional growth and practical application of employee ownership principles. Participants gain current, research-informed knowledge, expand their professional networks, build confidence, strengthen leadership capabilities, and develop skills they can apply immediately within their organizations. Certificates can help position learners for expanded responsibilities, committee leadership roles, facilitation opportunities, and continued involvement within The ESOP Association community.

Completion timelines vary by certificate. Each certificate page includes estimated timelines and learning requirements, so participants and supervisors can plan accordingly. 

Yes. Certificates are awarded after all required modules, online, in-person sessions, and assessments have been successfully completed. 

In-person courses count toward a certificate only when an FCP-certified facilitator teaches them. Because the Facilitator Certification Program was first offered in May 2026, most previously completed in-person courses will not apply toward a certificate. The exception is The Accelerator: if you have completed The Accelerator and are pursuing the Ownership Culture Committee Leader Certificate, you may count that experience toward the OCL Certificate. Most EOU certificates blend multiple learning modalities, including in-person educational experiences at regional and national conferences and on-demand online courses, and occasionally live online sessions. Each certificate page outlines the specific requirements 

In-person requirements are typically fulfilled through designated workshops/sessions, regional conferences, national conferences, or other approved learning experiences offered by The ESOP Association. Staff will record attendance and update learner records in the EOU. IMPORTANT NOTE: Each learner is responsible for ensuring that they are included on the attendance sheet during the in-person course. Learners receive credit only if their names appear on the attendance sheet.  

The EOU tracks learner progress throughout each learning pathway so participants can easily view completed requirements, remaining activities, and overall certificate progress. If a learner starts a module but does not finish it, the system saves their progress and allows them to resume where they left off. 

Yes. Participants who successfully complete all requirements will receive an official certificate from The ESOP Association recognizing their achievement. Learners will also receive a digital badge for their LinkedIn profile, giving them a visible way to share their commitment to employee ownership education and their connection to the country’s most trusted community supporting ESOPs and employee ownership. 

Many organizations invest in professional development for employee owners and committee leaders. Certificate pages include information that can help participants explain the business value of enrollment to supervisors and decision-makers. Many HR departments are able to pay for and register employees in the EOU. 

Experienced professionals are welcome. EOU pathways are designed to provide both foundational understanding and advanced application opportunities that strengthen leadership, communication, and practical implementation skills. 

Yes, technically there is nothing preventing you from doing this, although participants are encouraged to follow the recommended pathway and should consider the time commitment required to ensure a successful learning experience. We hope that you'll not rush through the process and will engage in a meaningful manner.
