About The ESOP Association:

The ESOP Association (TEA) is the only comprehensive national trade association representing all ESOP companies and the professionals who provide services to them.  Dedicated to advocacy, education, and the growth of employee ownership, The ESOP Association currently has 19 state and regional Chapters and attracts more than 13,500 people annually to 160+ chapter and four national meetings — including the annual Employee-Owned Conference in Las Vegas, the largest employee ownership event in the world, and the National Conference and Advocacy Day, held in Washington, DC. 

 

Overall Description of Position:

The ESOP Association will be hiring two interns that will support several key association function areas: Government Relations & Public Policy; Chapters & Membership; Events & Meetings; and Association Operations. Interns will gain an understanding of the different function areas of an association and will have the opportunity to participate in diverse projects while learning and gaining skills to support their career aspirations. While the focus area breakdown below gives an overview of projects, Interns will be expected to support all teams.

 

Government Relations & Public Policy - Interns will assist in the coordination of TEAs communications through digital and written content. The intern will work closely with the team to engage a broad audience on TEA's mission. They will help support the following activities during the internship term:

  • Tracking and researching current legislation, movement, and support on the Hill.
  • Helping to promote grassroots advocacy campaigns and recruit new supporters for the Employee Ownership Action Network (EOAN).
  • Monitoring media coverage of relevant TEA issues.
  • Creating an ESOP directory of our member's products and services for use in advocacy information regarding our members.
  • Drafting video scripts, generating social copy, and designing visuals, drafting social media plans, and articles for the monthly newsletter and other member communications.
  • Monitoring website analytics and tracking social engagement for analytic reports.
  • Cataloging and archiving past government relations and public policy work product and files.
  • Updating the website content for current events and TEA promotions.

 

Chapters & Membership - The Chapters and Membership departments work hand-in-hand with our corporate and professional members providing them tools, resources, and expertise on running and managing ESOPs.  The Chapters team is remote, and Chapter Executives are responsible for different regions of the country. The Chapters team are active participants in member events and activities of the 19 chapters nationwide. The membership team working in the Washington, DC office manages member recruitment and retention, answers day-to-day questions about their association benefits, plans the roll-out of member information, and manages membership awards programs.  Interns will help support the following membership and chapter projects:

  • Updating the ESOP Association Database by researching bounced emails and updating member information in the system.
  • Conducting Chapter Surveys to collect information for the Chapters and add that data to the membership database.
  • Creating analytical heat maps that identifies members and potential members by location for both professional and corporate membership categories.
  • Development of a heat map for membership prospects across the country.
  • Gathering current data on ESOP prospects and adding data to the Fonteva database.
  • Reaching out to members and previous attendees who are not currently registered for upcoming events.
  • Verifies data on our ESOP members through internet research/phone calls.
  • Assists with the editing and records management of Advisory Committees

 

Events & Meetings - The Events team works closely with all divisions at TEA to execute all our events and programs. Interns will work collaboratively to assist in event planning and execution. Events that an intern may be expected to be supporting could include TEA National Conference & Advocacy Day (May), EOF UPenn CEO Leadership (July & December), CEO Summit (August), Employee Owned Conference (November), The Professionals Forum (February), Regional and Chapter events, Board and committee meetings. Intern responsibilities supporting the events & meetings team may include:

  • Researching event opportunities and sponsors.
  • Supporting data entry for registration, sponsorships, programming information.
  • Sponsor support including collecting assets (logos, ads, promos, description materials, etc.), researching potential sponsors, researching contact information & follow-up. 
  • Event communication support (create insert signs, proofread text, etc.).
  • Providing on the ground support at events, assisting in event-related communications including invitations, uploading materials, and posting to websites, and social media post creation and coordination.
  • Post event/conference follow-up and certificates (research requests for past years and reissue certificates as appropriate).

 

Association Operations - TEA operations provide the association's staff and members with support and work on a wide variety of cross-team projects.  Projects and responsibilities in this focus area may include:

  • Cataloguing, digitizing, and archiving records pertaining to advocacy and legislation, chapter management, historical publications and recordings, board meeting and elections, and internal TEA policy and finances.
  • TEA and EOF merchandize tracking for improved online store operations.
  • Creation of tools and training for staff on internal policies, IT and security best practices, and productivity.
  • Supporting all departments with special projects and requests.
  • Assistance in the day-to-day management of the office and staff needs.  

 

General Responsibilities/Functions/Tasks:

  • Data entry and cross-checking databases.
  • Researching online and in archived paper files.
  • Proof-reading, writing, and formatting content.
  • Scanning and saving documents.
  • Creating and presenting ideas and work product.
  • Communicate internally with staff and externally with members via phone and email.
  • Willingness to work in DC office (remote work not available).
  • The ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Adaptable to new software and database programs.
  • Disposition of a quick and agile learner.
  • Well organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Broad communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Energetic, goal oriented, and dynamic work ethic.
  • Amenable to changes in the work environment and manages competing demands.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

Experience/Education:

  • Enrolled student or recent graduate (within 1 year of graduating) in any 2-year, 4- year or trade educational program.
  • No experience to entry level work experience (zero to up to two years' relevant work experience).
