Join The ESOP Association’s Public Policy Council. Applications Now Open
The ESOP Association is preparing to renew the membership of its Public Policy Council (PPC) and is seeking interested corporate and professional members to serve for its next two-year term, beginning in January 2025.
Several years ago, as part of a revamp of its public policy efforts, The ESOP Association’s Board of Directors approved the creation of the Public Policy Council. The PPC is a volunteer group of advocacy champions representing the most highly engaged TEA member companies, professionals, and individual employee owner volunteers and is charged with helping to shape and guide the Association’s public policy initiatives and advocacy activities.
In its inaugural term, the PPC has built an advocacy mission and vision statement, created several policy papers that clearly lay out the Association’s priorities, and been instrumental in guiding TEA’s advocacy efforts more broadly. In addition, members of the Public Policy Council have been speakers at Association chapter events, leaders for ESOP Advocacy Day in Washington, DC, and built relationships with elected officials. TEA’s advocacy activities have greatly expanded over this time, with substantial successes and policy victories.
In the next term, the Public Policy Council will continue to build on these efforts, with an added focus of supporting ESOP PAC, growing the Association’s Corporate Council, and increasing outreach to elected officials. The next Congress, to be sworn in on January 3rd, 2025, will need to address several important public policy issues facing ESOPs, including --
- Tax Provisions -- Key provisions from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) from 2017 will expire, and Congress will need to either renew, reform, or retire them. This effort could include international tax efforts to create a global “minimum tax” now underway at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
- Jobs/Economy – The general direction of the overall economy and consumer sentiment, both domestic and international.
- Regulation – The DOL is slated to release a draft of the adequate consideration rule that will affect every ESOP, plus the future of employee ownership.
- Retirement Security – The continued implementation and monitoring of SECURE 2.0 regulations remains a priority for our community.
