In 2025 Web Industries is celebrating 40 years of employee ownership, 25 of them as a 100% ESOP. Web is a manufacturer with facilities and employee owners in both the US and the EU. We are very intentional about implementing systems and structures for high participation.One very practical way we bring ownership culture to life is through our Ideas Teams. On March 11, Lori Chavez-DeRemer was officially sworn in as Secretary of Labor. The ESOP Association strongly supported Secretary Chavez-DeRemer’s confirmation because she has a deep understanding of ESOP businesses and the transformative power of employee ownership. She knows it’s possible to be both pro-business and pro-worker, and that ESOPs embody the best of both those worlds.

Less than three weeks after being sworn into office, U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer met with The ESOP Association’s President and CEO, James Bonham, to discuss the Association’s regulatory priorities under the Trump Administration. Chavez-DeRemer had been a strong and vocal supporter of ESOPs while serving in Congress. Consequently, The ESOP Association mounted a significant advocacy campaign in support of her confirmation as the ESOP community’s top regulator.

Federal agencies have established policy to encourage government contracting with Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs), Women Business Enterprises (WBEs) and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs).[1] Entities that are certified DBEs typically earn a significant amount of revenue that they may not otherwise earn because of DBE certification. Yet, DBEs face succession planning issues just like non-DBEs. That raises a question: If a DBE becomes ESOP-owned, will it be able to retain DBE status and continue to receive the benefits that come from DBE certification?
