The Main Street Employee Ownership Act is signed into the law, as part of the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019. The law makes it easier for small companies to use the Small Business Administration’s 7(a) program to finance a transition to an employee-owned business, such as an ESOP.

A study released today by the Rutgers Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing shows that ESOPs help families significantly increase their assets, thereby shrinking gender and racial wealth gaps.

In this, our final installment on common criticisms of ESOPs—and why they are wrong—we’ll look at the assertion that ESOPs are not real ownership.
According to cynics, ESOPs are “fake” ownership plans.
