Editorials are more difficult to have published than letters to the editor.  The best editorials contain clearly written commentary on subjects that would interest most editorial page readers.  Editorials tend to appeal to the reader’s intellect and are typically generated among members of an editorial board at the publication (usually a small group of staff and/or board members).  It is possible for someone outside the editorial board to call in with a strong opinion that might be used as the basis for an editorial, or might spawn a meeting with the editorial board for the person or organization.

If this is an option you would like to explore, start by contacting the Editorial Department at the media outlet to find out what the outlet’s policy is regarding editorials and how they are generated.  Each outlet will most likely have different guidelines to follow.
